My favorite parts of the Alki neighborhood are all the little parks scattered about and the dramatic skies. It really is beautiful no matter the weather and there is so much to explore - dense rain forests (Schmitz Park) and tide pools (Me-Kwa-Mooks Park and Charles Richy Sr Viewpoint) – all within walking distance of each other. I love how people come out to enjoy the phenomenal sunsets at Me-Kwa-Mooks Park. People meditate, paddle board, kayak, have picnics, do plein air painting, and just chill.

There’s a very historical feel to the neighborhood – deepened by the fact that my family’s roots are here. My grandma, who passed away at age 98 last Fall grew up here. She went to Alki Elementary and graduated from West Seattle High School. She always talked about playing in Schmitz Park. My dad and his siblings took swimming lessons on Alki beach. I love the old beach cabins that still remain scattered throughout the neighborhood.

I recently transitioned to being a full-time Artist (heatherbrincko.com) and Mom after working for 17 years in technology. A once-avid runner with a passion for physical and mental fitness, I now practice Trapeze at Emerald City Trapeze Arts. Earlier this year I launched Art Will Save You (artwillsaveyou.com) with my Aunt. It was born from a pact we made when we were both facing difficulties in life to “just make stuff until we figure it out”. The cause raises funds for community art programs and promotes art making for personal growth, mental wellness, human connection, and good old-fashioned fun. The art is in the process!
