What’s Included in a Move-In/Move-Out Clean?
Everything You Need to Know Before Handing Over the Keys
Moving is stressful enough. Between packing boxes, changing addresses, and coordinating logistics, the last thing you want to worry about is scrubbing baseboards or cleaning behind the fridge. That’s where a professional move-in or move-out clean comes in.
Unlike your typical weekly cleaning routine, a move-in/move-out clean is a deep, top-to-bottom refresh of the entire home. It's designed to make a property feel brand new, whether you're preparing to hand over the keys or just receiving them.

So what exactly does it entail?
Let’s start in the kitchen. Every surface is wiped down and sanitized, from countertops and backsplashes to cabinet interiors and appliance exteriors. Most services also include cleaning inside the refrigerator, oven, and microwave. The sink gets a good scrub, the floors are mopped, and all those dusty baseboards and corners are addressed.
In the bathrooms, you can expect a thorough cleaning of the tub, shower, toilet, sink, and vanity. Fixtures are polished, mirrors are made streak-free, and any built-up grime or soap scum is removed. Cabinets and drawers are wiped inside and out, and the floors get a full mop and sanitize.
Bedrooms and living areas also receive detailed attention. Professional cleaners will dust ceiling fans, blinds, windowsills, and doorframes. Floors are vacuumed or mopped, depending on the surface, and light switches, vents, and baseboards are cleaned and disinfected. Windows and any interior glass surfaces are typically included as well.
Closets, drawers, and any built-in storage areas are cleaned inside and out. If there are scuff marks on the walls or trash left behind, most services will take care of those too. The goal is to leave the home in truly move-in-ready condition.
So who benefits from this kind of cleaning?
Sellers often schedule a move-out clean to leave the property in pristine shape for its next owners or to help make a great impression during showings. Buyers or renters might want a move-in clean to ensure their new space is spotless before unpacking and settling in. And for landlords or property managers, it’s the final step in preparing a unit for a new tenant.
No matter which side of the move you’re on, a deep clean makes a difference. It saves time, reduces stress, and creates a fresh start.
